Excerpt From: Bounds, E.M. “Power Through Prayer.”
As I read the statement above by Bounds I immediately thought of Jeremiah 29:13. It says; "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
Every time I take part of studying the Bible with someone for the first time Jeremiah 29:13 is one of the first scriptures we look at. I normally would ask the person to think of something they have done with their whole heart and then to describe it in details. I tell them it doesn't have to be something spiritual.
The goal is for them to tap into that part of their soul that knows what it feels like to do something with their whole heart. Most of the time as the person retells the experience, something happens, there is a more intense spirit about them, they start smiling, their eyes light up, they laugh, maybe cry. They are back in that moment.
Once they are done sharing I say to them, that is what is like when you seek God with your whole heart. Their response is normally, "I get it".
Very rare I come across someone who can't think of anything they have done with their whole heart and we pray that seeking God will be the first thing they can say they did with their whole heart.
Jeremiah 29:13 is not only for non-Christians or those seeking a relationship with God; it is also for me to remember that I will only find God if I seek Him with my whole heart. That doesn’t change because I have a relationship with God.
I think about my kids; when they wake up in the morning they look around the house until they find me, if I am not in the house they start calling my cell to see where I am. Although they saw me the day before and although they know I have not abandoned them, is important to them to seek me and find me every morning they wake up. In fact they can move on with their day until they find me.
I sometimes can forget that finding God is a daily decision. The only way to find him is to seek him with all my heart.
I am very convicted today because Jeremiah 29:13 is a perfect example of how over time I stop asking myself questions that leads me to finding God.
Dear God good morning, thank you so much for waking me up and for the opportunity to speak to you.
God there are times in my life I have not seek you with all my heart and then I blame you when things don't turn out right.
God I pray to daily seek you. I want to find you. That is how I want to be daily, I know you are here and sadly sometimes I knowing that cause me to take you for granted.
God I pray 1 Chronicles 16:11 in my life "Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always."
I pray to remember that Psalm 14:2 says; "The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God."
It doesn't say, The Lord looks down from heaven on those who haven't chosen to be disciples. I pray to remember that becoming a disciple is not a pass to stop seeking you.
God thanks for the promise that if I seek you, you will reward me as Hebrews 11:6 says; "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
I pray to seek you earnestly. I pray that as I seek you earnestly everyday, it will be a reminder of your love as Proverbs 8:17; "I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me."
I am grateful to have found you this morning and pray that just like a toddler suffers with separation anxiety when their parents leave them somewhere, I will be unhappy every time you are out of my sight.
I love you; In Jesus Name I pray
