Excerpt From: Bounds, E.M. “Power Through Prayer.”
I am truly inspired by the statement above by Jonathan Edwards, a Christian preacher, philosopher, and theologian.
I have never though about praying for people God put in my life in such a way that it produces groans and agonies in me every time I pray for them.
The part of statement that captivated me was when Edwards says; "...until Christ was formed in the hearts of the people to whom he was sent".
I believe that was the key to praying so intensely for the people God put in his life. He believed that God sent those people for him to reach out to, for him to show them Christ.
I don't often think of the people God out in my way that way. If I only believed that more, I believe that I won't struggle with praying more for others, especially those who don’t have a relationship with Christ.
If I believed that I was sent to certain people to show them Christ; I would have the heart of David Brainerd, who was an American missionary. He said; "I think my soul was never in such agony before. I felt no restraint, for the treasures of divine grace were opened to me. I wrestled for absent friends, for the ingathering of souls, for multitudes of poor souls, and for many that I thought were the children of God, personally, in many distant places. I was in such agony from sun half an hour high till near dark that I was all over wet with sweat, but yet it seemed to me I had done nothing. O, my dear Savior did sweat blood for poor souls! I longed for more compassion toward them.” (Excerpt From: Bounds, E.M. “Power Through Prayer.”)
How radically different my prayer life will be if I imitated Jesus whom love for others led him to sweat blood for poor souls. I will definitely lead me to be more compassionate and loving toward others. I will be less critical.
I have a long way to go to develop such a heart, but I am very grateful for the examples God shows me through his word and through brothers and sisters in Christ that developing such a heart is possible.
Jesus disciples doubted that Christ can be formed in people; they doubted that people will be willing to give up everything for him, but Jesus helped them to see that yes on their own they won't but as Matthew 19:26 says; “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Men and woman can be save, Christ can be formed in the hearts of men and woman, those who have chosen Christ already can live peaceful, joyful and satisfied lives, this and more can happen because with God all things are possible.
I am like Thomas whom Jesus said; ".... Stop doubting and believe.” (John 20:27b)
I am very grateful for my times with God because it builds my faith and it reminds be that nothing is Impossible for God.
Dear God good morning, thank you so much for waking me up and for the opportunity to come before you. I am feeling so convicted this morning about how little faith I can have sometimes.
In a spiritual way I have witness, as it's written Matthew 11:5; "The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor."; yet constantly I doubt that with you all things are possible.
God I pray to stop focusing so much on my feelings and emotions, and focus more and the miracles I see you perform around me daily.
I pray that it will be those miracles that will lead me to pray for you to make more miracles happen. I am a living miracle, I am a result of your power, and I am the result of someone praying fervently for me.
I pray today I would pray like Jesus did in John 17:3; that those who you sent me to will "now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
I pray as Jesus did in John 17:11b for myself and my brothers and sisters here in Northern Virginia and across the world that you; "Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name...."
I pray to remember John 17:15-17 that says; "My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth." Jesus didn't pray for me to be taken out of this world but to be protected from Satan and sanctified by Your Word.
I pray God that you do whatever it takes to transformed my heart into the heart of Jesus who prayed as John 17:24 says; “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am....”. I want to desire that whomever you put in my path I will long for them to be where I am, safe with You.
I believe that there is no other way to be truly peaceful other than living by one standard by one truth, imitating one Love.
In Jesus Name I pray Amen.
