Buy something all your kids enjoy that you can give to them in small pieces.
For us will be recess peanut butter for one, Hershey’s for another, onion ring chips for another.
We first ask the kids to make a list of things that they want that will make them happy if they get it (hopefully the list is big)
Then take the list and ask them to imagine, that the things are the goodies you brought. So you will say, for example if they put a new video game, you will say: eat this piece of chocolate and pretend is the new video game (once they are done, ask are you happy now or do you think you could be happier) and do that for each thing on their list until the list is done.
No matter how many things you get, you won’t be truly happy. There are two reasons for that:
1- One things can’t make us happy, because they have the potential of being destroy and since there are not humans who can even thought they die in this life are alive in heaven, once these things are destroy they really are gone forever that is why things can’t make us happy. Read Matthew 6:19-20 to see that God proves that is true in the Bible.
2- A relationship with God is the only thing that can make is happy. Read John 4:7-14 Share how the Samaritan woman believe that if she had a well where the water that will never run out that will make her day, yet Jesus help her to see that there is not such a thing, the only thing that can satisfy us is a relationship with God. Then take the time to share how it is hard for you to keep your relationship with God the number one thing that makes you happy, but share how you feel when you spend time with God. For me I feel like I am set, I need nothing else for the day, just to focus on doing what’s right and being use by God.
Focus for the week: Each person pick one thing they going to commit to doing this week to help them grow feeling close and happy with God.
